New blog
This blog is intended to be about me. My thoughts, distilled for your edification and sanitized for family reading. I am an imperfect human being. I talk the talk sometimes, but I try to walk the walk more so. I am motivated by many things. I am married. I have profiles and friends on Facebook and LinkedIn. I even started the FSU Alumni and Student group on LinkedIn, which at this point has close to 5,500 members.
I enjoy following financial authors and economic bloggers. I manage money for a few people. I'm finishing my MBA classes at the University of West Florida. I do well in my classes, usually acing exams. I'm focusing on improving my paper writing as well.
For my own edification, I am studying statistics and programming in R (an open source statistical package popular with asset managers and economists.) I would like to learn C++ and Javascript as well.
I enjoy learning about and using open-source software. I like Open-Office, which competes rather well with MS Office. I installed it on my wife's new (but cheap) laptop and she really likes being able to export her documents into PDF format (me too). She loves the template packages I found for her. I'm even thinking of uninstalling Office 2000 pro from my laptop for space savings, but I may need it, so I'm holding off on it.
I consider myself politically astute, having an undergraduate degree in political science, but I have become convinced that politics is not really something I want to become too wrapped up in. I might comment from time to time on politically relevant topics, but only from a standpoint that most people can agree on.
This blog will tie together several other blogs I have from a personal angle. This is going to be my face to the world. As such, I will discuss my personal values to a degree.
